Piniella Unveils Cubs Offseason Plans...

In an interview with USA Today, new manager Lou Piniella listed Alfonso Soriano, Gary Matthews Jr., Schmidt and Zito as the free agents the Cubs are pursuing this winter and conceded that Juan Pierre may be gone. Boston, the Los Angeles Angels, Arizona and the White Sox are expected to pursue Matthews as well. How he feels about his father being let go as the Cubs' first-base coach obviously will affect how Matthews feels about signing with the Cubs.
